In the year 2005 Dodge manufactured a limited celebratory version of the SRT-4 in remembrance of the 2003-2005 Neon body style. The revised Caliber SRT-4 (2007) was created with a substantially new body style.
Commemorative Edition SRT-4 Dodge Neon. During a RIAC National Classic Car Show held at the RDS, Dublin an unexpected appearance of a Dodge Neon commemorative edition SRT-4 appeared amongst the crowd of spectator cars. While the commemorative edition SRT-4 wasn’t among the 160 classic cars on display in the event, it did get the attention of myself and a photographer. While most car enthusiast view the commemorative edition as "just a Neon" or "just another SRT-4," this limited edition SRT-4 might have been the rarest of all Dodge Neons.
It is common knowledge amongst Dodge enthusiast that only 200 commemorative edition SRT-4’s were manufactured. However, with the discovery of a commemorative edition SRT-4 sporting a plaque numbered 201 (and matching VIN number), Dodge enthusiast speculate more limited editions might exist. Moreover, Dodge enthusiast now question the production quantity of other limited edition models outside of the SRT-4 models. While its possible the plaque could have been a manufactured hoax, the car sported all the commemorative edition characteristics in perfect detail; blue stitched steering wheel, seats, door sills, floor mats, paint strips, and lets not forget the all important VIN number (with the last three numbers a clear 201).
While the car owner wished to remain anonymous, "he" states the vehicle was purchased new directly from the manufacture as a "special privilege," then had the car shipped overseas to Ireland.
The Dodge Neon SRT-4 commemorative edition was a limited production version of the famous Neon SRT-4, only 200 cars were produced in 2005. The commemorative edition SRT-4 possess the same performance characteristics and top end speed as the standard 2004 and 2005 SRT-4 models. The differences in the commemorative edition SRT-4 versus standard models are cosmetic in the way of style. Electric blue stripes run down the center, from rear bumper to engine hood, adding a racy flare to is already aggressive look. The commemorative SRT-4 also features: a blue stitched steering wheel; blue stitched floor mats; stainless steel door sill runners; blue stitched seats; and a commemorative edition plaque.
The commemorative edition SRT-4 reflects the standard SRT-4. It sports a stylish, functional engine hood scoop adding to its already aggressive look, which provides additional cooling to the engine compartment. It houses a powerful 2.4 liter 4-cylinder DOHC in-line turbocharged engine; and a stout 5-speed manual transmission. Accompanying this are advanced Tokico struts.
The commemorative edition SRT-4 interior adds a racing look and feel over standard SRT-4 models. Both passenger and driver seats provide great support for the aggressive driver, and its blue stitched faux-carbon fiber steering wheel mimics a "Fast and Furious" feeling when zipping around sharp turns. Sporty instrument panel faces with illuminated SRT logos and dials, as well as a silver trim Auto-Meter boos gauge offer a snazzy appeal.
A 230 horsepower motor launches the car from zero to sixty in 5.2 seconds and from zero to one hundred and four miles per hour in 13.7 seconds. Top end speed is 160 miles per hour.
Despite the awesome performance and stylish features, the commemorative edition SRT-4 has limiting factors. For one, power windows are not installed in the rear cabin, rear windows are manually operated. Entertainment options lack the ability to connect an MP3. Though the vehicle does contain a six speaker design, crisp clear sound quality is average compared to other vehicles in the same price range.
The commemorative edition SRT-4 also lacks stability in extreme environments due to its narrow 17X6 inch wheels. While the narrow wheels contribute to the vehicles overall light curb weight, the narrow wheels limit the cars gripping potential during hard turns at high speeds. The gas millage also adds to the negative appeal with a dismal 19 mph during city driving and 28 mph at highway speeds. In a troubling economy and skyrocketing gas prices, owners will feel the financial crunch at the gas pump.
In conclusion, the commemorative edition SRT-4 is a remarkable vehicle with extreme performance, but lacks the entertainment options and poor fuel economy.
